The Partner Visa allows spouses or de facto partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia. Applicants first receive the temporary Partner visa (subclass 820), which lets them stay while their application is processed, and later transition to the permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) for long-term residence. Partner visa temporary (Subclass 820)

Partner visa Permanent (Subclass 801)
This visa lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia permanently. It is usually only for people who currently hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820).

Partner Provisional visa (subclass 309)
This is a temporary visa granted to applicants who are outside Australia. It allows you to live, work, and study in Australia while waiting for your permanent Partner visa application to be processed.

- Have your spouse or de facto partner sponsor you.
- Be outside Australia when you apply for this visa. Family who apply with you must also be outside Australia.
- Be in or outside Australia when we decide your temporary visa application.
With this visa you can
- Live, work and study in Australia while we process your permanent Partner visa
- Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

Partner (Migrant) visa (subclass 100)
This is the permanent stage of the Partner visa, granted after holding the subclass 309. It allows you to stay in Australia permanently with full rights, including work, study, and access to benefits.
Requirements
- Hold a temporary Partner (Provisional) visa (subclass 309) or Dependent Child visa (subclass 445)
- In most cases, continue to be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your sponsor.
With this visa you can
- Live, work and study in Australia indefinitely.
- Sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible.
Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300)
The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is a temporary visa that allows a fiancé(e) of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter and stay in Australia. It lets the applicant live, work, and study in Australia for up to 9 months, during which time they must get married to their sponsor. After marriage, they can apply for a permanent Partner visa to remain in Australia.
Requirements
- Be 18 years old or older.
- Have a sponsor who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Intend to marry your prospective spouse before the visa period ends.
- Have met your prospective spouse face to face as adults since turning 18, and are known to each other personally at the time you apply for this visa.
- Be outside of Australia when you apply for this visa, along with any family that apply with you.
- Be in or outside Australia when we decide your temporary visa.
- Meet relationship requirements.
With this visa you can
- Stay in Australia for 9 to 15 months from your visa grant date.
- Work and study in Australia.
