Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400)
The Highly Specialised Work stream of this Temporary Visa lets you do short-term, highly specialised work in Australia. It is suitable if you have specialised skills, knowledge or experience not generally available in Australia.
Requirements
- Have highly specialised skills, knowledge or experience that can help Australian business and can't reasonably be found in Australia.
- Only do the work or activities for which your visa was granted.
With this visa you can
- Do short-term work in a highly specialised job.
- The work or activity must be non-ongoing.
Stay
We can grant this visa for up to 6 months (depending on the circumstances).
Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)
The Temporary Work (International Relations) Visa (subclass 403) allows individuals to enter Australia temporarily to engage in specific activities related to international relations. This visa is structured into several streams, each catering to different purposes and eligibility criteria.

Requirements
- Be supported by a foreign government agency
- If you will be teaching a foreign language, be supported by an Australian school

- Comply with licensing or registration requirements as part of your employment
- Be supported by the signatories to the agreement

- Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular) stream
Requirements
- Be outside Australia when you apply and when we decide on your first visa application.
- Be 18 years old or older.
- Have an employment contract that meets Australia’s workplace relations laws.
- Have the support of DFAT.

With this visa you can
- Do full-time domestic work in the household of someone who holds a Diplomatic (Temporary) visa (subclass 995).

- Privileges and Immunities stream
Requirements
- Get a letter of support from DFAT recommending that you should be granted this visa.
- Have, or expect to have, the privileges and immunities listed under the International Organisations (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1963 or the Overseas Missions (Privileges and Immunities) Act 1995.

- Be a citizen and resident of a participating PALM scheme country.

With this visa you can
- Work in Australia for a temporary activities sponsor, that is approved by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) as a Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme employer.
- work under the PALM scheme for up to:
- 9 months if you are employed under a short-term work contract.
- 4 years if you are employed under a long-term work contract.
- Travel to and from Australia as many times as you need while holding a work contract under the PALM scheme and a valid visa.
- Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES)
